Faculty Development and Diversity

The Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California is committed to creating a culture that promotes and celebrates diversity and inclusion among its faculty, administrators, residents, fellows, students and staff. It is our goal to build a comprehensive sense of accomplishment, connection and engagement on our campus by tapping into the diverse array of communities and experiences that exist among our Trojan family as well as the distinctly diverse community of greater Los Angeles that the Keck School of Medicine calls home.

We refuse to believe that diversity is merely a numbers game. While, we are passionately dedicated to the recruitment of a diverse faculty and staff, we are equally steadfast about retention and promotion. At the Keck School of Medicine, diversity and inclusion are guiding principles for excellence. They are interdependent. As an academic medical center in a constantly changing and diversifying nation, we are learning that disparities not only effect access to health care but can lead to negative health outcomes. The Keck School of Medicine is committed to uniting with other academic leaders in addressing these issues. We believe that the first step to addressing health disparities and eliminating health inequalities is to practice inclusiveness at every level of our University.

In addition to promoting and fostering the richness of all cultures on campus, the Office for Faculty Affairs is focused on nurturing the career development of all faculty members, residents and fellows. We function as a resource for faculty, residents and fellows who may be unsure of the steps necessary to reach their professional goals. We strongly believe in the existence of a robust mentoring program for all junior faculty, residents and fellows as well as innovative research opportunities that relate to teaching and diversity.

As we continue to build a diverse school of medicine in one of America’s most diverse cities, we encourage you visit us and join in our efforts to transform the Keck School of Medicine into an exciting community that values diversity and inclusion at all University levels and views inclusion as a long term plan for academic excellence.

The University of Southern California is fully committed to cultivating faculty members across all levels of the university. This commitment is demonstrated by the successful establishment of mentoring programs and activities for junior faculty, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and undergraduates.
