Basic Endovascular Skills for Trauma (BEST)
The BEST course is an American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma course designed to introduce the provider to resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA). This course is available for continuing medical education credit to surgeons, active military ED physicians and select physicians with prior catheter-based skills knowledge. This is a five-hour course that covers the basic techniques of REBOA placement, as well as the clinical indications and contraindications to catheter placement. Didactics, simulator model training and a fresh perfused cadaver lab are included. The course addresses possible complications and common methods that can be used to prevent and/or address these complications within an institution.
