International Research Fellowship

The international research fellowship offered at the Los Angeles General Medical Center provides a unique opportunity for international research fellows to join the Los Angeles General Medical Center trauma, emergency surgery and surgical critical care program for one to two years. More than 150 research fellows, representing more than 30 countries, have trained at Los Angeles General Medical Center and have gone on to become leaders in trauma care around the world.

Fellows participate in a clinical and didactic teaching curriculum, which includes daily teaching rounds by trauma or critical care faculty, weekly core lectures and journal club, weekly morbidity and mortality conference for both the acute care surgery and surgical critical care (ACS) division and the Department of Surgery, weekly departmental grand rounds and monthly trauma quality improvement meetings. Fellows are integrated into the clinical research program, with the opportunity to participate in registry, large database, prospective and multicenter studies. These opportunities allow fellows to become proficient in biostatistics, manipulation of large databases and to gain exposure to clinical manuscript writing.

International research fellows must demonstrate proficiency in conversational English and must have their own funding.
