The student-led Connect for COVID-19 group is holding its second drive-through donation event to collect electronic devices to help coronavirus patients at L.A. hospitals stay connected with family and friends.

A donation box will be open Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Biggy parking structure’s parking attendant booth, 1334 Biggy Street, on the Health Sciences Campus. Check out the flyer for more info. Those who can’t make it can fill out an online donation form, and the group will come pick up the device.

The group, led by Keck School of Medicine second-year medical students, is gathering gently used smartphones, tablet computers and laptops for use by patients who are infected with COVID-19 and can’t receive visitors.

Earlier this month we wrote about the students’ efforts, and the national group that started it.

In addition to devices, donors also can give money to support the program. The GoFundMe page is nearing its goal of $10,000 raised.

Donors are encouraged to wipe all data from their devices before donating. Here are step-by-step instructions on how to do so.
