About Our Research
The division is involved in various clinical research, translational research and clinical trials. It is a priority of our division to investigate the latest innovations and remain leaders of the field in developing and investigating the newest technologies and treatments. The program involves integrated research across various fields of study such as health sciences, gene therapy, colonic physiology, laparoscopic physiology and laparoscopic cancer management.
Examples of previous clinical and translational research conducted by the division include:
- Diverticulitis outcomes
- Surgical site infection quality improvement
- Molecular basis of colorectal cancer – collaborative with oncology and gastroenterology divisions
- Inflammatory bowel disease – disease severity outcomes with surgery and medical therapy, collaborative with gastroenterology division
- Effect of three-dimensional laparoscopy on surgeon training and procedure technique
- Multiorgan resection outcomes with locally advanced cancer – collaboration with urology department
