This is a stressful time for us all. We do not know how severely the COVID-19 pandemic will affect us, our families and our friends. Luckily, the situation seems to be improving right now, but we continue to adapt to our dynamic environment. The one thing that is consistent is the fact that we can count on each other.

The USC Caruso Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery is dedicated to maintaining high-quality resident and fellow education during this time when clinic and surgical volumes have been substantially reduced. Toward this end, the department has led an effort involving more than 40 institutions across the nation, to offer free, high-quality online education. Together, they organized a Collaborative Multi-Institutional Otolaryngology Residency Education Program using Zoom, and many of the initial speakers were USC Caruso Department of Otolaryngoloy faculty.

The program has a class schedule that rotates through top faculty from the participating programs. Anyone who is interested can log in to listen to the lectures and participate in discussions. The lectures are recorded and stored in the cloud so that people who are unable to participate in the live activity can watch it at a time that is convenient for them. This is a great way for residents to learn from and network with terrific faculty.

The online classes started March 23 and have been averaging 100–200 participants per day. Another 500–600 people have been watching the recorded videos in the two weeks after they take place. The program is scheduled to finish at the end of June.

The class runs every weekday from 4-6 p.m. PDT. Simply click on the Enter Classroom tab to log in and participate. Link to website: https://sites.usc.edu/ohnscovid/
