LAC+USC Medical Center has earned a spot on a hospital honor roll for reducing Cesarean births (C-sections) among first-time moms with low-risk pregnancies.

The medical center, supported by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Keck School of Medicine, is among 104 hospitals in the state that met or surpassed a federal goal aimed at reducing C-sections for low-risk, first-births to 23.9 percent. This effort is to ensure C-sections are only performed when medically necessary.

California Health and Human Services Secretary Diana Dooley announced achievement awards to these hospitals on behalf of Smart Care California on Oct. 26. The awards will be given annually.
