Join artist Laura Ferguson, Artist-in-Residence Ted Meyer, and Mark J. Spoonamore, MD, associate professor of clinical orthopedic surgery for a Zoom conversation: “Coming to Know: An Artist Investigates her Own Unusual Anatomy.”
It’s Friday, Nov. 20, from noon to 1 p.m. Register here to receive the Zoom link, and you can check out the flyer for more information.
Ferguson has made her own body the subject of her art, finding beauty in a curving spine and exploring the connections between pain, consciousness, and creativity. She grounds her work in anatomical reality, drawing from skeletons and cadaver dissections in the Anatomy Lab and from medical images of her own body.
This event is the latest in a series put on by the Keck School’s Humanities, Ethics, Art and Law (HEAL) program. You can not only learn about the program on that page but view more of Ferguson’s work. The program’s mission to align the work of patients/artists with the core medical school curriculum, and to foster enhanced understanding between patients and future health care professionals.
